Bad Habits
Do you have bad habits that are robbing you of your happiness or success?
Aristotle said, ” We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” And if your day is filled with bad work habits, like frequently checking emails, checking your phone, watching TV and surfing the net, well then that is robbing from your overall success.
Differences between coaches and therapists
Recently I had a discussion with somebody that is interested in becoming a coach. They asked what the major difference was between coaching and counseling. I went pretty in-depth for them in the answer, but the basic difference is therapists and counselors tend to try to explain why some problem exists. Coaches look at how to overcome the challenge to help get somebody to move forward.
A counselor will help you figure out how you developed a bad habit. They will probably go into the pain/ pleasure principle. They will take you back to when the first time you encountered the habit.
A coach will help you develop strategies to change the negative habit into a habit that will move you closer to your goals. In live presentations I share a story about helping a child learn to hit a baseball. I didn’t care why he couldn’t hit, I worked with what we had at the time. He went on to hit his first home run that season. We changed quite a few bad habits over a series of practices.
Here is a clip to help you overcome your bad habits.
Take Action Today:
